I have been interested in astronomy since I was a boy, but until recently it hasn't extended beyond armchair interest. Last year, I acquired a small telescope and have been looking at the sky in more depth.

We look up and see the stars. From Earth orbit, we look down and see the streetlights. And under the streetlights, we can no longer see the stars.

A few years ago, I went to a nearby retreat centre on a four-day solitary retreat. I ended up doing what I needed to, not what I planned.
